IWC Big Pilot Spitfire Automatic Bronze Green Dial Green Leather Strap Mens Watch Model# IW329702 Producing its first pilot's watch in 1936, IWC has a long and excellent heritage in engineering robust tool watches, belonging to the original five companies and only Swiss manufacturer of B-Uhren watches. IWC's first pilot's watches was produced mainly for civil aviation purposes. The Big Pilot started off as a functional military watch with an oversized case, a simple yet distinctive dial and a big diamond-shaped crown, making it one of the most well-known models in the horological industry. This classic no-date IWC Big Pilot belongs to the Spitfire collection, named after the legendary British fighter plane, combining form and function. It features a slightly smaller 43 mm bronze case that holds a matte green "Type A" dial under a scratch-resistant convex sapphire crystal. It has gold-tone and luminescent lozenge hands and white Arabic numerals and a beige orientation triangle with 2 dots on either side at 12 o'clock as hour markers. This minimalistic dial design allowed pilots improved legibility and easier 12 o'clock indication for both daytime and nighttime. The diamond-shaped bronze screw down crown at 3 o'clock, absence of a date aperture, smaller case and dial design combine to form a near-perfect reinterpretation of the classic military navigators' watch, the B-Uhr reference no. 431. This version lacks the red "SPITFIRE" text shown on earlier variations. Fitted with a green leather strap and secured by a bronze buckle which completes the vintage look. This watch also features a screw down caseback inscribed with an image of the Spitfire jet, which encases the IWC-manufactured caliber 82100, a Swiss automatic movement boasting 60 hours of power reserve, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and is water-resistant up to 100 meters/330 feet.
