IWC Big Pilot Power Reserve Automatic Stainless Steel Green Dial Brown Leather Strap Date Mens Watch Model# IW501015 Producing its first pilot's watch in 1936, IWC has a long and excellent heritage in engineering robust tool watches, belonging to the original five companies and only Swiss manufacturer of B-Uhren watches. IWC's first pilot's watches was produced mainly for civil aviation purposes. The Big Pilot started off as a functional military watch with an oversized case, a simple yet distinctive dial and a big diamond-shaped crown, making it one of the most well-known models in the horological industry. This Big Pilot features a hefty 46.2 mm stainless steel case that holds a striking sunray dark green "Type A" dial under a scratch-resistant convex sapphire crystal. The dial's hue is inspired by the "racing green" paint used on British racing cars since 1903. It has silver-tone and luminescent lozenge hands and white Arabic numerals and an orientation triangle with 2 dots on either side at 12 o'clock as hour markers. This minimalistic dial design allowed pilots improved legibility and easier 12 o'clock indication for both daytime and nighttime. A power reserve indicator is situated at 3 o'clock adjacent to the diamond-shaped screw down crown while the trapezoidal date aperture is symmetrically placed at 6 o'clock. Fitted with a brown leather strap and secured by a signed double folding clasp which completes the vintage look. This watch also features a screw on caseback which encases the IWC-manufactured caliber 52110, a Swiss automatic movement boasting 168 hours or 7 days of power reserve, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and is water-resistant up to 60 meters/200 feet.
