Named after the famous Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont and one of the first ever wristwatches, Louis Cartier made it in 1904 to grant Santos Dumont's wish; the ability to tell time while flying in an era where pocketwatches are the norm. This extra large-sized gents' Santos-Dumont features a 46.6 x 33.9 mm stainless steel square case with an 18K yellow gold bezel affixed with 8 exposed screws, it holds a sunray silver-tone dial under a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The satin-finished dial has rounded angles and two white square lines separating the center dial, hour, and minute tracks. It has distinctive blued-steel sword hands, black outer railway minute track, and radially arranged black Roman numerals as hour markers. The beaded crown at 3 o'clock is set with a synthetic cabochon-shaped spinel, which complements the hands and adds another touch of blue. In between its beautifully curved lugs is an anthracite gray alligator leather strap that is secured with a stainless steel signed buckle. This watch has a screw-on caseback engraved with Santos Dumont's signature which encases the caliber 430 MC, a Swiss manual winding movement beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour generating up to 38 hours of power reserve and is water-resistant up to 30 meters/100 feet.
